I noticed this year many mothers have been getting sick, so I ask you all to join me in praying for the health of our Mothers. Mama the first teacher and caregiver in the family. The one who is always there for the family, cooking, cleaning, working overtime, in and out of the home. Mama who carries the load in more ways than one, and keeps the family together. Yet as the children grow older, and move away, it is usually Mama who is left alone, with pics and phone calls to fill the empty space in the home. She may have lived and sacrificed her dreams and goals, so she could be the wife and mother, that she was supposed to be. She may have sacrificed meals or even her own body, so her children could eat. She could have spent the prime time of her life, working 40 or more hours a week, away from home, traveling to and fro.... again so she could make sure the children's needs were met. Sometimes she loved a man who showed loved with his fists, or one who loved the bottle, or a man that just never came around to show love at all. Every Mother I know has a story to tell that would bring you to your knees. Yet in the end the Mother's work goes unnoticed and sometimes unappreciated. When Mother does not get the attention that she deserves, when she does not get the opportunity to truly fulfill her own personal mission, when she does not get the opportunity to speak and be heard... her hurt and pain can turn to dis-ease. When the body is sick it is crying out for attention, the issues that have contributed to the dis-ease have to be resolved for true healing to occur. Take time out to love your Mother... not just on Mother's day. Love and laughter is good medicine. Make sure Mama is eating healthy food, smoothies, and fresh juices. Encourage Mama to take care of her body by exercising, take her for walks and to the gym if you can. They have zumba classes full of elders. Send cards and gifts, listen to her talk about her feelings, take her out to dinner and on special trips, be creative and have fun with it.
